Conference Chair's Message
Message from the Chair
I’m excited and relieved that we’re going forward with the conference. After much discussion at the CAPL board level, a survey of potential sponsors and a poll of the membership at large, we’re confident that we can present a successful conference this September in St. John’s.
The committee members are enthusiastic and working diligently to pull everything together. I commend them for their continuing commitment and energy to carry on in this difficult environment. I’ve received much encouragement from many members that support the conference and was very pleased that close to 70 members responded affirmatively to our poll regarding their possible attendance. I’m sure that number will easily double once you see the program we’ve put together, the activities that are booked to enhance your experience of Newfoundland and momentum builds when you learn who else is attending and want to be a part of it.
Because of the deferral of the conference in 2015, CAPL has a credit at the Sheraton Hotel which in effect is a subsidy for the delegates. As such we’re able to reduce the delegate fee and use those funds for our program. We will use the credit at the hotel for all meals and other expenses that typically go to the master account. Although sponsorship dollars are down significantly from previous conferences, I’m pleased many companies are still willing to help out, even at a reduced contribution level. We’re actively marketing the conference and remain hopeful that enough funds are raised to maintain the quality conference experience you’re accustomed to.
I’d like to thank all committee members for their time and effort, especially in these uncertain economic times. A special thanks to the committee chairs:
